A little about myself...
First as an art student, then hobbyist, and now serious enthusiast, it seems photography has always been a part of my life. My 35 year career in Advertising and Print Production allowed me to master pro-level digital tools as they became available, an invaluable experience that carried over to my personal love of photography.
And about my work...
The beauty of both small intimate landscape and natural subjects have often been my favorite to photograph, especially from a macro view. The play of ever-changing light across a subject insures it is a unique capture. I prefer a narrow field of focus and carefully managed highlights/shadows to direct the viewer’s eye to the details that best tell the photograph’s story.
While my journey began with nature and landscape photography, for the past decade I have been exploring “making images” rather than just “taking” them. This has led to experimenting with "bending reality" and has included in-camera multiple exposure, intentional camera movement, Photoshop composites and photographing in a controlled studio environment. I like playing with the the distortion introduced into images with various Lensbaby lenses and accessories. I have also been experimenting with cameras converted for the infrared light spectrum. Infrared photography has a way forcing you to think in a different way as it breaks all the rules of color full spectrum photography from the conditions that best suit it to the subjects that are most successful.
My goal is to create images that are visually exciting and go beyond simple image taking. If the viewer connects emotionally with one of my images because of its visual beauty or underlying content message I feel I have been successful. I use Photoshop and other digital tools to help bring my vision to life and to reveal the subject's story..
